2460 ONEEEE!

So, I look slightly dazed in this picture, for which, I blame the fetus.

This was taken on the night that we saw Les Miserables.  The worst thing about Les Mis is that I have to think really hard when I spell or say it, unless I stick with "Les Mis," which, when pronounced, sounds like "Lei Miz."

I blame the French.

Also, I had no clue what Fantine or the leader of the army were talking about or that there were people "doing it" during the "Master of the House" song.

By the way, that was one rocking song, amongst many other rocking songs, though I still like the songs better when I make Husband sing them to me when we take showers together.

So, you should see Les Mis, especially if your husband wants to.
(But it might not be as good as Phantom of the Opera, if you have seen it on stage, or West Side Story, if you haven't seen it on stage yet, but you really want to.)

Romance Strikes Again!

A delicious, Little Debbie-fed baby bump, aged for 17 weeks.

In an attempt to exercise my soon-to-be-large self, I concocted a ritual to ward off the scorching desert temperatures that will be outrageously more uncomfortable for a person who won’t be able to see her feet.

This sacred custom (hello, Anthropology major in the house) is called walking.

I talked Husband into walking around Tempe Town Lake. I have to admit, I really like it down there, even though it’s in the middle of a big, dirty city. We saw a little boy, who didn’t even look two years old. This kid was booking it on a sweet, wooden bicycle. You should’ve seen how fast those stumpy baby legs were moving!

Back to the real story.

While walking, I started doing some West Side Story dance moves, including the famous crouch/run-jump/snap-in-the-air. That one is a classic. I also added the spin-clap-kick/spread-your-arms-with-hands-extended, as seen in the first scene of the movie.

It turns out that I was the one sending romantic signals to my husband, not you good for nothing readers, even though I asked you so nicely.

...

“I know what I’m getting you for our anniversary!”

(Um… this was 6:30 on a Sunday night, on the day of our anniversary, mind you.)

Without thinking, I guessed, “West Side Story on DVD?!”

And then, that handsome man of mine said, “Yep.”

He didn’t even play it off or anything!! He is so lame sometimes. Crap.

...

So, this morning at work, I get an email from the hubby. He forwarded me the Amazon purchase confirmation with this romantic poem:

Happy anniversary baby! Tell your mom to leave me alone.

Then, he called to tell me that he used my debit card to buy the movie.

This guy is the male version of Aphrodite, if you hadn’t noticed.

And he’s all mine!

...

To be fair, he did the dishes last night, tickled my back before I fell asleep, and made me an amazing omelet this morning.  He is sweet in his own ways and I love him.

Tempe Art Festival

I have a weak spot for festivals, farmer's markets, antique stores, and thirft stores.

It's not that I like the treasure hunt (since I never find anything); I like to people watch.

Luckily, Husband is usually willing to accompany me on my adventures.

We both took a liking to Hill Billy Willy, the most redneck, politically incorrect, and unsafe street performer ever.

Our pit stop at Dunkin Donuts was also a highlight.

Another Fancy Event

My workplace teamed up with a few associations to host an educational program for Arizona lawmakers.

The event was held at the Arizona Historical Society at Papago Park.

The venue was beautiful and it brought me back to my days in the museum.

Oh, how I loved poking around in boxes filled with artifacts and giving tours to school kids.

Who knows, maybe I'll end up back in archaeology or museum studies one day.

Which reminds me...
I should write about my summer at field school,
aka
the best summer of my life.

As you can tell, I really like old things.

Sleepover of Awkwardness

The group, on top of a mountain in Papago Park.

On Saturday night, our friends invited us to a sleepover...

Yes, a sleepover for married couples.

Turns out, a brother-in-law had to cancel a trip and couldn't get a refund on his hotel room.  This hotel room had three beds.

Badda boom, badda bang... sleepover.

The whole thing was strange, but it was a lot of fun to hang out with couples our age.  I'm actually starting to feel like I have some friends!

This one will be filed under the strange things I've done in my life.
