Oh, To Be a Female

Lately, I’ve been thinking about lipstick.
Do you ever think about lipstick?

Currently, I own two lipsticks: An obnoxious red (from when I was a midget-version of Olive Oyl for Halloween) and a bright coraly-pink. Neither of these colors are very flattering. The red is too “stage makeup” and the coral clashes with my perpetual blushing.

I look at a lot of pictures of myself (you don’t?) and I appear a tad washed out. Either I need to pump up the eye makeup or add some lip color, you know? I already wear a ton of mascara, but I’m pretty dumb when it comes to eye shadow.

Shading? Eyelid crease? Blending? Huh?

But if I start wearing lipstick, does that make me an old lady? And I’m not even sure I can stand wearing lipstick; I don’t even wear chapstick or lip gloss.

This could pose a problem.

Maybe I’ll just stick with my Bella Swan vampire face.

And in case you were wondering, I get that crazy eyebrow from my grandma.

While Walking

Walk, walk, walk.
That's all this pregnant lady does!

Do I hate Arizona, specifically the Phoenix metro area?
Yep, pretty much.  I guess Alaska would be worse.  Or the Middle East.

(Cement + dirt + cacti + sweaty armpits + vinyl seats that burn your butt when you wear shorts + the color brown + heat waves rising from the pavement... I could probably write a dissertation on this.)

I have to admit, though, the past few days have been magical.

The temperatures have been in the 80s, the breeze has been blowing, and the flowers are blooming.

It's all quite beautiful.
As beautiful as a cement city can be.

Another Fancy Event

My workplace teamed up with a few associations to host an educational program for Arizona lawmakers.

The event was held at the Arizona Historical Society at Papago Park.

The venue was beautiful and it brought me back to my days in the museum.

Oh, how I loved poking around in boxes filled with artifacts and giving tours to school kids.

Who knows, maybe I'll end up back in archaeology or museum studies one day.

Which reminds me...
I should write about my summer at field school,
aka
the best summer of my life.

As you can tell, I really like old things.

Cruising Down Central

Sometimes, don't you feel like you just need to get outside?

On Friday, I was suffering from major cabin fever.  (Sitting a desk for 9 hours a day will do that to you.)  I took a walk down Central Avenue and the weather was a perfect 80 degrees.

Sometimes, I wish that it got cold in Arizona, but sometimes the warmth is extra nice.

It's amazing how many beautiful things you can find, even in the big, ugly city.

P.S.  The Halloween pictures are coming!  (Even though my new header already gave it away!)

Room for Two, Please

Thursday was pretty awesome.  Work flew by because I was playing event coordinator, instead of doing the usual desk job.

The first event was a fancy luncheon at the Arizona Biltmore.  The Biltmore is gorgeous.  I couldn't get over the lush greenery and the textured buildings.  Let me tell you, the luncheon was nicer than my wedding reception.

(Don't worry, it didn't hold a candle to being sealed in the temple.)

The second event was more low-key, but I still enjoyed the opportunity to do a little bit of learning and socializing.

Maybe I should go into event planning.

Double Rainbow

The view from my skyscraper.

For reals.
